As part of the commemoration of World Refugee Week, ReConnect took the opportunity to relaunch its key projects to support Refugees into higher education. On 24 June 2016, as part of the commemoration of World Refugee Week, we organised a workshop on our pilot project, to transfer the skills of teachers with refugee background into higher education in Ethiopia and south Sudan. Key contributors included: Myles Wickstead, CBE, formerly HM Ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti & the African Union; Mr. Gonzalo Vargas Llosa, UNHCR UK Representative; Mr. Robin Shawyer, Director of Windle Federation; Ms. Rosemary Togwe, a TWRB; and James Kepo, the principal of Yei (South Sudan) Teacher Training College. The event was held at the Charity Centre/ ‘Reconnect’s office, as part of the European Union Capacity Building project to enable refugees’ in London and the South East to broaden their engagement in global issues. The event was funded by the European Union. The event included:
Reconnect successfully organised a 10K race in Hyde Park to raise awareness and funding. Over 300 people took part in the event.
